Understanding Competitor Comparison Insights
Know where you lead. Close the gap where you don’t.
Your online reputation doesn’t exist in a vacuum—and neither do your reviews. That’s why Scorpion’s Competitor Comparison tool in the Reputation Suite goes beyond the basics. It shows you how your business stacks up against the top local competitor, not just in star ratings, but in real signals that influence customer decisions and local SEO.
This isn’t just a scoreboard. It’s your playbook.
What You’ll See at a Glance
Right up top, you’ll get a clear side-by-side snapshot of:
- Google Rating – Your average star rating vs. your top competitor.
- Overall Sentiment – The percentage of positive mentions in your reviews vs. theirs.
- Total Reviews – Your review volume compared to theirs.
- Average Response Time – How fast you reply vs. your competitor.
💡 Your top competitor is automatically selected based on their overall combined score (more on that below).
This is your quick pulse check. In seconds, you’ll know where you shine—and where the other guy might be gaining ground.
The Combined Score: Your Reputation, Quantified
Your combined score rolls up key signals—like review volume and rating quality—into one clear number, from 1 to 100. This helps simplify complex data into an easy-to-read reputation benchmark:
- 90–100: Excellent → You’re dominating. High volume, high ratings, high trust.
- 80–89: Good → Solid ground, but room to level up.
- 70–79: Average → You’re holding steady, but improvement is within reach.
- Below 70: Needs Work → It’s time to shift gears. The data says you’ve got gaps—and we’ll help you fix them.
Where Competitors Are Gaining Ground
The Competitor Intelligence section shows two things that matter:
- Google Ranking Leaderboard
See which businesses are most visible in your local market, based on their recency, rating, and review volume. More visibility means more leads. - Competitor Insights
These are AI-generated takeaways that flag performance gaps—like faster response times or stronger customer sentiment in key categories. You’ll only see insights that are actionable and relevant.
💡 Think of this section as your strategic radar. It tells you what to pay attention to—without the noise.
Head-to-Head: Your Business vs. Theirs
You’ll get a detailed view of how you compare in two areas that influence both perception and rankings:
- Review Trends – Track rating changes, volume growth, and response times over the past 90 days.
- Sentiment Trends – See how customer perception is evolving—are you gaining trust, or losing it?
Use this view to understand if your improvements are keeping pace—or if the competition is pulling ahead.
Sentiment Breakdown by Topic
Here’s where it gets real. Not all reviews carry the same weight—and this section tells you what customers are actually saying.
- Overall Sentiment – Percentage of positive mentions across all reviews.
- Mentions by Topic – Drill down by theme (e.g., Pricing, Professionalism, Trustworthiness, etc.) and see:
- How positive each topic is
- Who’s leading the conversation—you or your competitor
A few percentage points may seem small, but in local markets, they make a big difference. If a competitor is consistently winning on “Professionalism” or “Trust,” you need to know why—and take action.
How to Use It
This isn’t a report you read once and forget. This is a real-time opportunity to outpace the competition.
Here’s how to turn insights into outcomes:
- Double Down on Your Strengths. Leading on professionalism, responsiveness, or quality? Feature it in your ads, website copy, and sales calls. Let your happy customers be your proof.
- Close the Gaps. Trailing on review volume or sentiment? Start small:
- Send more review requests.
- Respond to every review faster.
- Follow up with clients right after service. It adds up fast—and it makes a real difference.
- Watch the Trends. The data updates monthly. If you start gaining traction, you’ll see it reflected. Use that momentum to fuel even more growth.
